LOST IN TRANSLATION: PUTO

Comic strip about a Filipino woman offering 'puto' and explaining that it is a rice cake while her Hispanic friend reacts to the word's very different meaning in Spanish.

Sometimes a perfectly innocent word in one language lands very differently in another. "Puto" is a Filipino steamed rice cake—and also, well, something else entirely in Spanish. Put two friends from those cultures together and suddenly breakfast or a light snack gets awkward.

A little reminder that words don't travel alone. (APJ)
