Gild, Guild

Gild is golden; guild, union. — The verb gild means to coat something in a thin layer of gold; it is also an alternative spelling for guild, which exclusively refers to a trade group or union, and has nothing to do gold.

Gilt, Guilt

Gilt is golden; guilt, contrition. — The adjective gilt describes something that is gilded (see above). Gilt also refers to a young female pig that's not yet a sow. Guilt, on the other hand, is the opposite of innocence.
