A Week in the Life of a Miss Universe
W
e missed Miss Universe™ 2018 Catriona Gray's first couple of days in New York City, but we figured the first week wasn't a bad place to start either. Let's just say we gave her plenty of quality time to get settled in Manhattan, soak in the reality and possibilities of it all, and embrace wholeheartedly such no small feat as the Big Apple.
(Apparently, as it turned out, there was no getting settled to speak of here whatsoever for the beautiful and talented Filipina — Catriona Gray got right down to business as soon as she landed at JFK!)
Thanks to Instagram, we didn't have to do a blow-by-blow account of Catriona's hectic schedule and her just as acute sense of fashion. Shortly after New Year's Day, we've seen her make a runway of the airport in Manila just by posing with a lone carry-on luggage, even before her plane got off the runway.
Fast-forward to her dropping by at the Miss Universe HQ on 6th Avenue Midtown a few days and nearly 14,000 kilometers later — she had the good sense not to post anything from her transpacific flight — we get a glimpse of her oversized trademark I Heart NY cuppa (both tea and coffee, she posted) in an outfit that's part cosmopolitan, part pastoral, and all classic Catrionic — all set for the full year ahead in her new home away from home.

unday, the following day, January 6th, Catriona turned 25 and spent the remainder of the weekend sampling a few of NYC's gastronomic delights, doing a wee bit of shopping, going to Hillsong, and watching a Broadway show, among other things — seemingly a bit of me time for the beauty queen of Australian-Filipino heritage and Bicol roots, hence the absence of social media posts for that day.
Monday finds her doing six TV interviews in total, including her back-to-back debut appearances in three popular American morning programs on ABC and Fox 5. Cat briefly appeared on Good Morning America, then guested next on Live with Kelly & Ryan's first live show for 2019. Check out the videos below:
ew York City (and the world at large) definitely warmed up to Catriona Gray in more ways than one, and perhaps we'll make do with Cat's musings about her advocacies, dreams, and passions on live TV and syndicated media for now. The year has just begun; we hope that soon we will see more of Cat's vision in full fruition as an artist, musician, social worker, and spokesperson for girls and women everywhere.
