Epic Battle

(Digital vector, 47.59 x 37.26 cm, 2018)

"An illustration depicting a battle with one's self."

The Prowler

(Digital vector, 28.58 x 42.99 cm, 2018)

"A Filipino version of Beauty and the Beast, inspired by a true-to-life story of selfless love of a self-proclaimed beast, a man whose life-hardened heart fell in love with a beautiful woman — expressing his affection anonymously, giving gifts to the one he loves while hidden from view, lurking in the shadows."

Fu Yabing: Race Against Time

(Digital vector, 51 x 63.5 cm, 2018)

"A tribute art for the B'laan master weaver Fu Yabing Dulo and her passion in making authentic traditional tabih. As she races against time, she patiently combines abaca fibers by hand while slowly losing her steps. As her keen eyes easily tire out in embedding the iconic B'laan patterns in her tabih, her advancing age is getting in the way of preserving the B'laan art. Here her face is digitally drawn with vector scribbles and strokes to mimic abaca strands, showing the facial contours of her age that also makes an elegant profile view portrait of the master weaver."

This piece is among three of Millado's vector masterworks featured in Ani 40: Katutubo, a collection of essays, poems, short stories, and other art forms that shed light on the indigenous Filipino’s fight and stand for their ancestral land. According to the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Ani 40 seeks to change the notion that "the indigenous (peoples) are only the purists who continue to live for and affirm the role of culture and indigenous traditions present before the colonization."
